THINGS TO EXPECT:
WINTER WEEDS - Stimulated by winter rains. Don't allow them to mature and produce seed.
APHIDS ON VEGETABLES, TREES & SHRUBS
SPIDER MITES can be expected with warming weather and spring winds. Rinse them off foliage with a forceful fine spray of water every week or so during this season, mitacides may be necessary.
FLEA BEETLES on grape and flower leaves, as well as ground covers.
CITRUS BLOOM AND FRUIT DROP can be minimized by moderately watering trees on a two-week schedule during the blooming and fruit-set season.
THRIPS in citrus bloom will do little harm, and sprays may harm honeybees.

RIPE FRUIT DROP OF CITRUS may be provoked by spring rains, irritations or winds.
MILDEW on Roses, Euonymus, Cucurbits & Grapes – due to carry-over infection from last year.
BIRDS AND WORMS can devour enlarging vegetable seedlings. Carbaryl or Bacillus thuringiensis is effective for worms and net coverings are the nest practical control for birds.
SEASONAL LEAF DROP may be more noticeable following irrigation’s.

THINGS TO DO:
PLANT VEGETABLES.
PLANT YOUNG CITRUS TREES DURING MARCH AND APRIL. One to three year old trees transplant most satisfactorily. Larger trees are more expensive and suffer more shock.
PRUNE HEDGES NOW, ESPECIALLY IF THEY NEED MORE THAN NORMAL CUT-BACK. This will allow them to refoliate before chances of burn from the hot summer sun. Then fertilize and water in thoroughly.
PREVENT WEEDS FROM GOING TO SEED. Cut off seed heads before they mature and dry.
DON'T DETHATCH BERNUDAGRASS & HYBRID BERMUDAGRASS lawns until mid to late April.
CHECK YOUNG TREES FOR STAKE & TIE INJURIES – Correct. Stake trees only when necessary.
